INFORMATION FOR NEWCOMERS AND VISITORS

On the day of your arrival

  • get a key and a swipecard (you need a 4 digit pin code for after-office hours)
  • have a picture taken (for web page, directory, and door sign): photo uploader
  • check that the door sign is correct
  • for public transport, buy multiple-trip tickets at Press Byrå beforehand! (But if you have a pram with a child, you travel for free!)

Printing and other computing issues

You can find information about computing at Nordita on the online help pages http://www.nordita.org/help/computing

If you need more help, need to order computer equipment or have questions, contact Hans Mühlen (room 132:032).

Preprints

It is important that we have a record of your scientific output. Click on the preprints button on the Nordia page (https://secure.nordita.org/preprints/index.php) for registering new preprints and related information. Conference proceedings and public outreach articles should also be entered.

Travel

Whenever you expect to be away from Nordita (both conferences and vacation) you must register your trip at the travel page (https://secure.nordita.org/travel). This allows your colleagues to see when you are away. It also helps in the compilation of the annual report.

Help making life easier for other newcomers

This and many other pages have been edited using Wiki; see http://wiki.nordita.org/. Log on to the system, and register if you haven't done this before. Try to enter additional useful information.

If you stay longer

If you stay longer you will need a Swedish Person Number and probably a bank account.

The Person Number is critical for getting an account with a Swedish SIM card for your phone. If you happen to visit Sweden (not just Stockholm), and if you know your address, you could do it a few weeks before.

To get a bank account, you need a letter from the director, your passport, and, in addition (you might not believe it!) a Swede coming with you to the bank to verify that you who the passport says you are.

Planning your visit

  • make sure you have a valid passport for the duration of your stay!
