Nordita is in the campus of AlbaNova University Center, within walking distance from the main campus areas of the three universities in northern Stockholm: Stockholm University, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Karolinska Institutet.
We try to accommodate our guests in the Nordita apartments near Thorildsplan, west of the Stockholm city center. A few of the hotels we may also use for our visitors are indicated on the map.
The address of the Nordita apartments is Gyllenborgsgatan 8 (some apartments are in Thorildsvägen 3, just around the corner).
Going by bus to Stockholm takes about one hour. Tickets for the Airport bus (the company is called Flygbussarna, see http://www.flygbussarna.se/?lang=EN) can be bought on the bus with any major credit card. Note that cash is not accepted!
Take the Airport Bus from Arlanda to S:t Eriksplan. Walk 300 m to the subway (in Swedish "tunnelbana"; entrances are marked with a blue "T" on white background, see map; see http://www.sl.se/Templates/SubStart.aspx?id=1906 for information on the Stockholm subways). Go from S:t Eriksplan to Thorildsplan (any train in the direction Hässelby Strand, Alvik or Åkeshov; two stops).
When traveling with a lot of luggage, it may be more convenient to stay on the bus until the end destination Stockholm City or Cityterminalen, which is just next to the Central Station. Take right when you enter the terminal hall from the bus stop, then take the stairs just to the left of the exit and follow signs "Tunnelbana Metro" and the blue "T" logo. You should take another staircase down to the left of the storage boxes, then again to the left at the SL Center (where you can buy tickets for the subway and city buses). Take the green line trains in the direction Hässelby Strand, Alvik or Åkeshov to Thorildsplan (six stops).
The Arlanda Express train (see http://www.arlandaexpress.com) takes only 20 minutes but costs twice the bus fare. Go from Arlanda to Stockholm Central. From the end of the platform, follow signs with "Tunnelbana Metro" and the blue "T" logo. To the left of the storage boxes you should take a staircase down, then again to the left at the SL Center (where you can buy tickets for the subway and city buses). Take the green line trains in the direction Hässelby Strand, Alvik or Åkeshov to Thorildsplan (six stops).
At Thorildsplan subway station, take the left exit just after the ticket booths. You should see a small Café (with the flags of Sweden and Skåne outside) to your left when you come up the stairs. Walk past the Café, across a small park, and then turn to the right along Thorildsvägen. Gyllenborgsgatan is the first street on the right hand side.

Taking a taxi from Arlanda to anywhere in central Stockholm will cost approximately 450-500 SEK. Make sure to ask for the fixed Arlanda-Stockholm price! Taxis accept all major credit cards. Take the subway from station Thorildsplan, any train in the direction T-Centralen, Hagsätra, Högdalen or Skarpnäck, to T-Centralen (six stops). Cross the platform to the red line, and take a train going in the direction Mörby Centrum to Tekniska Högskolan (three stops). Take the exit Körsbärsvägen, and the staircase to your right after the entrance.
To Nordita it is now a 10-15 min walk (see the directions on the map). When you come up to the street level from the subway, you will have the main street Valhallavägen on your left hand side, making an S-bend towards the left, around a small park. You should follow that street and continue slightly downhill until you reach a hot-dog stand Tullfritt, at the bottom of a steep street Roslagstullsbacken. Nordita is at the top of that street, across the roundabout.
Instead of walking, you can take the buses 43 or 44 from just outside the subway exit (50 m ahead, along the sidewalk) to the end destination Ruddammen. You can't buy tickets on Stockholm buses, but if you came from the subway, that ticket can be used for transfer.
Going in the other direction, from Nordita to the apartments, you should take a red line subway in the direction T-Centralen or Fruängen to T-centralen, cross the platform, and take a green line train in the direction Hässelby Strand, Alvik or Åkeshov to Thorildsplan.
Taking a taxi will cost approximately 150 SEK. Taxis accept all major credit cards. Some taxi companies are: Taxi Stockholm: (+46) (0)8-150000, Taxi 020: (+46) (0)20-202020, and TaxiKurir: (+46) (0)8-300000. The address of Nordita is Roslagstullsbacken 23.
If you take the airport bus from Arlanda (see the directions for going from Arlanda to the apartments, above) and get off at S:t Eriksplan, take bus 4 in the direction Radiohuset to stop Valhallavägen, which is just across the street from subway stop Tekniska Högskolan. To walk to Nordita, see map and directions above. Please note that you cannot buy bus tickets on the bus! There is a ticket vending machine on the bus platform, taking Visa or MC credit cards or coins. You can also buy bus/subway tickets in the news agent "Pressbyrån" in the nearby subway station, and they accept all major credit cards except AMEX and Diner's.
If you take the airport buses and get off at Cityterminalen, or if you take the Arlanda Express train, follow the instructions above to get to the subway. Then take the red line, any train going in the direction Mörby Centrum, to Tekniska Högskolan (three stops). Take the exit Körsbärsvägen, and the staircase to your right after the entrance. Some airlines fly to Skavsta airport by Linköping, southwest of Stockholm. Take the Flygbussarna airport bus to the City Terminal, and follow instructions above as for bus travel from Arlanda airport (the Skavsta airport buses do not pass S:t Eriksplan).
