THEORETICAL PHYSICS SEMINARS

Nordita is situated in the AlbaNova University Center campus, as are the the two theory groups (CoPS and KoF) in the physics department of Stockholm university (SU), and the theoretical physics department of the Royal institute of technology (KTH). Since these four units share the same interests, we have decided to co-organize seminars, conferences and other events.

Here is a list of the regularly scheduled seminars in theoretical physics that are organized by one or more of the theory groups at AlbaNova. See the Seminar schedule for a list of seminars held within a month from now.

The SU/Nordita High Energy and Gravity Seminar

Theory seminar, with a slant towards string theory and general relativity.

Usual time: roughly bi-weekly on Mondays at 13.30-14.30, usual place: the CoPS group room, A5:1041.

Organizers:

Marcus Berg (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8848
Valentina Giangreco (Nordita), phone: 5537 8577
Troels Harmark (Nordita), phone: 5537 8717

The OKC Seminar

This is strongly phenomenology/cosmology-oriented, but occasionally theorists speak

Usual time: bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 13.15-14.30, usual place: the FA32 seminar room. (Weekly, except when there are a lot of new postdocs when it's every week)

Organizers:

Edvard Mörtsell (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8535
Marcus Berg (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8848
Kambiz Fathi (Astronomy, SU), phone: 5537 8521
Klas Hultqvist (Elementary Particle Physics, SU), phone: 5537 8671

The KTH/Nordita/SU Seminar in Theoretical Physics

This is is a "theory colloquium" (i.e. cond-mat, quantum information, string theory, anything theory), i.e. supposed to not be overly technical.

Usual time: weekly on Wednesdays at 11.00-12.15, usual place: the FA31 or FA32 seminar rooms.

Organizers:

Eddy Ardonne (Nordita), phone: 5537 8804
Ingemar Bengtsson (KoF, SU), phone: 5537 8732
Marcus Berg (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8848
Edwin Langmann (KTH), phone: 5537 8173

The KTH/SU Mathematics Colloquium

Eventhough the physics departments of KTH and Stockholm University (SU) are located at AlbaNova, the mathematics departments are not (but within walking distance from AlbaNova). The two departments co-organize a mathematics colloquium.

Usual time: Weekly on Wednesdays at 16.00-17.00, and alternates between KTH (odd weeks) and SU (even weeks). At the KTH Mathematics department the colloquium is usually held in room 3721 (tea is served at 3:30 in the lunch room), and at the SU Mathematics department it is usually held in building 5, room 14.

The CoPS/Nordita Theory Journal Club

This journal club has a theme every semester, concurrently with the usual type of "recent paper" discussion when someone volunteers.

Usual time: roughly bi-weekly on Thursdays at 13.30-15.00 or 11.00--12.30, usual place: the CoPS group room, A5:1041.

Organizers:

Marcus Berg (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8848
Fawad Hassan (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8739
Rachel Rosen (CoPS, SU), phone: 5537 8727
Troels Harmark (Nordita), phone: 5537 8717

The AlbaNova Thursday Colloquium

The AlbaNova colloquia are intended for students and staff members in all research fields at AlbaNova - physics, astronomy and biotechnology.

Usual time: Thursdays at 15.15-16.00, usual place: the Oskar Klein Auditorium, FR5. Coffee and tea is served at 15.00 outside the auditorium.

Organizers:

Edwin Langmann (TheoPhys, KTH), phone: 5537 8173, e-mail: langmann /+/ kth /./ se
Göran Östlin (Astro, SU), phone: 5537 8513 - ostlin /+/ astro /./ su /./ se
Axel Brandenburg (Nordita), phone: 5537 8707, e-mail: axel /./ brandenburg /+/ nordita /./ org

Complex Systems and Biological Physics

Theorerical biophysics, complex systems and statistical mechanics seminar; sometimes experimental work is presented;Usual time: weekly on Tuesdays 13.30-14.30, usual place: 112:026, NORDITA astrophysics building seminar room

Yasser Roudi (Nordita),
John Hertz (Nordita),
Ralf Eichhorn (Nordita)
Erik Aurell (KTH),
Supriya Krishnamurthy (KTH)

The Nordita Seminar

Roughly bi-weekly seminar given by members of the local physics community, intended for a general theoretical physics audience.

Usual time: roughly weekly on Fridays at 13.15-14.30, usual place: the Nordita seminar room, 132:028.
