Scope

The program will bring together leaders in research areas of light-matter interaction, two-dimensional materials (2DMs), and quantum applications, thus merging these rapidly developing fields. The optical response and transport of 2DMs are defined by underlying quasiparticles in the system. For instance, tightly bound excitons and trions allowed to demonstrate the strong light-matter coupling in a single layer of 2DM, leading to mode hybridization and largely modified linear response. The interaction between matter quasiparticles leads to induced optical nonlinearity, opening the route to monolayer- thick optoelectronic devices, and is currently on the agenda of various research groups. The goal of the program is to consolidate the efforts and discuss the best routes to achieve, enhance, and use nonlinear physics in two-dimensional materials. As an ultimate aim, the question of future quantum applications for coherent 2D devices will be posed. The outcomes of the program shall shape the existing development into a coherent framework of harnessing nonlinearity in 2D, and will set the future directions for the field.

The program aims to partly cover following topics:

  • Nonlinear optical response of 2D materials
  • Nonlinear electronic transport in 2D materials
  • Time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
  • Exciton and Trion quantum physics in TMDs
  • Polariton quantum physics in TMDs

Preliminary schedule

Week 1

The idea is to start the program with smaller-scale meetings, which will include 4 talks a day and discussion of recent advances in the fields of light-matter coupling and 2D material transport and topological properties. Here the main target will be linking subcommunities in the field.

Week 2

Round table on future directions for the field. While resembling the workshop schedule, the second week is planned as a brainstorming phase for the program. There will be 4 talks a day, by invited and contributed speakers.

On-site event with streaming

The meeting is designed as a platform for discussing a cutting edge research in the field, and due to Covid restrictions we can host only a limited number of invited on-site participants. At the same, we are ready to stream the sessions for all registered participants and will provide an opportunity to ask questions. The links will be sent at the beginning of the programme, and we will send relevant updates in advance.

Schedule of the Programme

Application/Registration

If you want to apply for participation in the program, please fill in the application form. You will be informed by the organizers shortly after the application deadline whether your application has been approved. Due to space restrictions, the total number of participants is strictly limited. Invited speakers are automatically approved, but still need to register.

The minimum stay for participation in the program is one week, but longer stays are encouraged. Nordita aims to provide all program participants with adequate work desk space. Shorter term stays are allowed for the conference, but we encourage all conference participants to consider also staying for (part of) the regular program.

Application deadline: 15 Feb 2022; *Extended till 28 Feb 2022;  Closed.

Accommodation information

Nordita provides a limited number of rooms in the Stockholm apartment hotel BizApartments free of charge for accepted participants and after application evaluation.

Travel support

At this point we cannot offer a travel support. However, limited travel support is available for reimbursement. If you require support, please indicate in the comments field an estimate of your expected travel expenses, and how much of the expenses you are able to cover from other sources.
