INTERNAL ROUTINES

The pages in this section list laws, guidelines and helpful tips concerning issues that relate to your employment at Nordita (in most cases you are actually employed by Stockholm University). If you have any further questions you should contact the Nordita HR Officer, Elizabeth">https://www.nordita.org/people/staff/index.php?u=eyang">Elizabeth Yang.

Forms of Employment

Nordita is not a legal entity in its own right, so we have made an agreement with one of our two host universities, Stockholm University, to take charge of all matters regarding employment and other affiliation with Nordita.

There are two models for contracts with Stockholm University relevant to Nordita staff (Stockholm branch):

Employee

  • Tenured professors
  • Assistant professors
  • Nordita postdocs (employed on external grants)
  • PhD Students
  • Administrative staff

These groups have contracts which make them full-fledged Stockholm University employees, with all the associated benefits, including the pleasure of paying Swedish taxes.

Scholarship

  • Nordita fellows (postdocs paid by Nordita)
  • Nordita postdocs (with scholarship on external grants)

Scholarship holders are not Stockholm University employees, and are therefore not covered by insurance policies and other employee benefits at Stockholm University. Nordita buys separate insurance for scholarship holders.

Affiliations and Appointment Criteria

Researchers who are not employed or on a stipend, and have strong ties to Nordita can be affiliated in a number of different ways. See the page on Employment and Affiliation for an overview, as well as for criteria for appointment to such positions.
