Cold Atoms and Bose-Einstein Condensation

Congratulations to Kalle-Antti Suominen (Helsinki), who has been awarded a NorFA visiting professorship to spend time working with the group at the Ørsted Laboratory in Copenhagen for about 6 weeks each year for the next 3 years.

Congratulations to George Kavoulakis, who has been awarded an EU fellowship to work at Nordita for a further two years.

Three prominent workers in the area of Bose-Einstein condensation and related areas, Yuri Kagan (Moscow), Lev Pitaevskii (Moscow and Haifa), and T.-L. (Jason) Ho (Ohio State) will participate in the Landau meeting, August 24-29, 1998, and there is a strong possibility that they will be at Nordita for periods other than that of the conference. Also Lene Hau (Cambridge) will be at Nordita from July 25 until August 1, and she will lecture in the Master Class for undergraduate students.

The group working on theory at Nordita and the Ørsted Laboratory has set up a home page, where their articles may be found. Its address is http://ntserv.fys.ku.dk/bose/

Concetta Minniti, who is a Ph. D. student working with Sandro Stringari's group in Trento, is visiting the group in Copenhagen until late August.

If you would like more information about activities in this field, contact Chris Pethick (pethick@nordita.dk).
