THEORETICAL PHYSICS SEMINARS

Nordita is situated in the AlbaNova University Center campus, as are the two theory groups (CoPS and TKM) in the physics department of Stockholm university (SU), and the theoretical physics department of the KTH Royal institute of technology. Also at AlbaNova is the cross-institutional Oskar Klein Centre (OKC). Since these units share the same interests, we have decided to co-organize seminars, conferences and other scientific events in theoretical physics.

Here is a list of the regularly scheduled seminars and meetings in theoretical physics that are organized by one or more of the theory groups at AlbaNova. See the Seminar schedule for a list of seminars held within a month from now.

Mondays

The OKC/Nordita High-Energy Physics Theory Seminar

Theory seminar, with a slant towards string theory and general relativity.

Usual time: Mondays at 13.15-14.15, usual place: the Nordita East Building seminar room, 132:028.

Organizers:
Alexandros Anastasiou (Nordita)
Evgeny Sobko (Nordita)

Tuesdays

The OKC Beyond the Standard Model Working Group seminars

Seminar of the OKC Beyond the Standard Model Working Group.

Usual time: Tuesdays at 10.00-11.00, usual place: the KTH Physics meeting room, A4:1003 (AlbaNova main building, 4th floor).
Organizers:
Chad Finley (OKC/Fysikum, SU)

The Nordita Seminar

Nordita seminars are given by members of the local physics community, intended for a general theoretical physics audience. New Nordita seminars are announced irregularly, when there is a speaker. Traditionally the time is on Tuesdays at 11.00-12.00, but this can vary, as does the venue.

Organizers:
Dhrubaditya Mitra (Nordita)

The SU/Nordita Condensed Matter Seminar

Usual time: weekly on Tuesdays at 11.00-12.00, usual place: the Nordita South Building seminar room, 112:028.

Organizers:
Yago Ferreiros (Fysikum, SU)
Yaron Kedem (Fysikum, SU)
Flore Kunst (Fysikum, SU)
Iman Mahyaeh (Fysikum, SU)

The OKC Colloquium

This is strongly phenomenology/cosmology-oriented, but occasionally theorists speak. OKC is the Oskar Klein Center, a collaboration between several research groups in physics and astronomy at Stockholm University and KTH.

Usual time: bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 13.15-14.30, usual place: the FA32 seminar room (AlbaNova main building, 3rd floor).

Organizers:
Edvard Mörtsell (OKC/Fysikum, SU)
Kambiz Fathi (Astronomy, SU)
Klas Hultqvist (Fysikum, SU)

Complex Systems and Biological Physics Seminar

Theoretical biophysics, complex systems and statistical mechanics seminar; sometimes experimental work is presented. Usual time: weekly on Tuesdays 13.30-14.30, usual place: Nordita South Building seminar room, 112:028

Organizers:
Ralf Eichhorn (Nordita)
Erik Aurell (Computational Biology, KTH)
Stefano Bo (Nordita)

Wednesdays

The KTH/Nordita/SU Seminar in Theoretical Physics

This is is a "theory colloquium" (i.e. condensed matter, quantum information, string theory, anything theory), i.e. supposed to not be overly technical.

Usual time: weekly on Wednesdays at 11.00-12.15, usual place: the FA31 or FA32 seminar rooms (AlbaNova main building, 3rd floor).

Organizers:
Eddy Ardonne (Fysikum, SU)
Ingemar Bengtsson (Fysikum, SU)
Edwin Langmann (Theoretical Physics, KTH)

The OKC Cosmology and Gravity Working Group seminars

Seminar of the OKC Cosmology and Gravity Working Group.

Usual time: biweekly on Wednesdays at 13.15-14.15, usual place: the A5:1041 seminar room (AlbaNova main building, 5th floor).
Organizers:
Garrelt Mellema (OKC/Astronomy, SU)
Edvard Mörtsell (OKC/Fysikum, SU)

Hep-th arXiv discussion

Usual time: Wednesdays, 13:30-14:30 in the Nordita East Building seminar room, 132:028. This is an informal discussion of recent papers posted in arXiv:hep-th.

Organizers:
Riccardo Borsato (Nordita)

Nordita Astrophysics seminars

They are being held on Wednesdays, 13:30-14:30 in 122:026. As a rule, all papers submitted by group members to the arXiv are to be presented here. Sometimes there are two talks of 30 minutes instead. This seminar slot is also used for guests and visitors of the group. Several times a year, this slot is also used for joint seminars with the Solar Physics Institute and the group of Göran Scharmer.

Organizers:
Axel Brandenburg (Nordita)

The SMC Mathematics Colloquium

Even though the physics departments of KTH and Stockholm University (SU) are located at AlbaNova, the mathematics departments are not (but within walking distance from AlbaNova). The two departments co-organize a mathematics colloquium, under the auspices of the recently formed Stockholm Mathematics Center, SMC.

Usual time: Weekly on Wednesdays at 14:30-15:30, usual place: the Oskar Klein Auditorium, FR5 (AlbaNova main building, 4th floor).

The OKC Extreme Objects Working Group seminars

Seminar of the OKC Extreme Objects Working Group.

Usual time: Thursdays at 13.00-14.00, usual place: the KTH Physics meeting room (AlbaNova main building, 5th floor).
Organizers:
Jesper Sollerman (OKC/Astronomy, SU)
Felix Ryde (OKC/Physics, KTH)

The OKC Theory Working Group seminars

Seminar of the OKC Theory Working Group.

Usual time: Thursdays at 13.15-14.15, usual place: the Nordita East Building seminar room, 132:028.
Organizers:
Bo Sundborg (OKC/Fysikum, SU)

The AlbaNova/Nordita Colloquium

The AlbaNova/Nordita colloquia are intended for students and staff members in all research fields at AlbaNova - physics, astronomy and biotechnology.
